Sheer Driving Pleasure can take place even if you are not behind the wheel

BMW and Shell V-Power host record-breaking Festival at Kyalami

The BMW M Festival took place over the weekend of the 21st/22nd October 2018 at the Kyalami Race Track. This was the first time the event was brought to South African soil and Johannesburg really put the event on the mark; breaking the record for the biggest BMW M Festival ever hosted by the M Brand. The previous record was held by Japan, attracting 6 000 visitors – South Africa attracted 20 000 visitors over the course of the weekend.

Test drives, hot laps, a pop-up dealership and music performances were just a few of the attractions over a weekend dedicated to the love of motoring and, more importantly, the BMW M Brand. Test drive registration started early on Saturday morning with the spots being filled up just ninety minutes (Yes. Ninety!) into the festival’s official start time of 10:00AM Local Time. Wherever you go, Aygo

DRIVEN: Toyota Aygo

Last weekend I got the chance to road test, and review, the Toyota Aygo in sunny Johannesburg. Let’s get the nitty-gritty figures, and information, out the way and then I can get into my thoughts about the small hatch.

Toyota Aygo Rear End

159 000 of your hard-earned South African Rands would be needed to get yourself the 1 litre, three cylinder, 5-speed manual Aygo. My thoughts

The small, one litre, engine packs quite the punch. It is perfect for inner city drivers which offers a firm – but comfortable – ride. To be honest, in the city, at low speeds, it performs almost as well as a 1.2 or 1.4 litre engine. Between the speeds of 45-100 km/h it would definitely compete with the bigger engines. On the inclines however, it performs like Joe Allen’s Liverpool career; a load of potential which fades into mediocrity and a sense of frustration on what could have been. Scuderia Ferrari is a truly unique brand

The 23rd of September 2017 saw the return of the Ferrari marque to Kyalami.  The occasion: Ferrari Day, undoubtedly Africa’s largest gathering of supercars from Maranello.

The event was expertly organized by SEFAC (Southern Equatorial Ferrari Automobili Club). The annual Kyalami event is one occasion when members of the world’s oldest Ferrari owners’ club have unrivaled access to the, new and improved, 4.26 km circuit.
